Electric-GS is an experienced manufacturer of medium voltage and low voltage electrical equipment in Yueqing, Zhejiang, China. This engineering guide helps buyers, contractors and engineers make correct and safe decisions for power distribution and renewable energy projects.
What Happens Before Your Switchgear Reaches the Site
When you order a ring main unit or switchgear panel, the factory does much more than assemble components. The manufacturing process involves sheet metal fabrication, busbar preparation, breaker assembly, wiring, a complete quality control sequence and final testing. Knowing this process helps you evaluate suppliers and understand why quality differs so much between factories.
Step 1: Sheet Metal Fabrication
Every panel starts as steel sheet. Our workshop uses CNC punching, laser cutting and bending machines to produce enclosures, doors and mounting frames with consistent accuracy. Frames are welded or riveted, then cleaned, treated and powder-coated with corrosion-resistant paint.

The enclosure’s IP rating, door strength and cable access are all determined in this first stage, which is why structural quality is impossible to fix later.
Step 2: Busbar Preparation
Busbars are cut from copper or aluminum, bent to shape, and punched for connection holes. Contact surfaces are cleaned and silver-plated where required to reduce resistance. After fabrication, busbars are insulated with heat-shrink tubing or epoxy and checked against the drawing before assembly.
Step 3: Breaker and Component Assembly
Vacuum circuit breakers, load break switches, fuses, CTs and relays are mounted into the frame according to the single-line diagram. Mechanical interlocks between the breaker, earthing switch and door are adjusted and tested at this stage, because they protect the operator during real operation.

Step 4: Wiring and Control
Control circuits are wired with numbered cables following the schematic. Our electricians use a standardized routing system with cable ducts and clamps, which makes future maintenance much easier. Every wire gets a ferrule label, and the wiring is checked twice against the drawing before testing.
Step 5: Quality Control Inspections
| Inspection Point | What Is Checked |
|---|---|
| Mechanical operation | Breaker close/open, interlocks, indicators |
| Torque verification | All bolted connections |
| Wiring verification | Against schematic, continuity |
| Insulation resistance | Phase to phase and phase to earth |
| Dielectric test | Power frequency withstand voltage |
| Contact resistance | Main circuit resistance |

Step 6: Type Testing and Routine Testing
Type tests prove the design: temperature rise, short-circuit withstand, dielectric and mechanical endurance. These are performed once on a representative unit, usually at an independent laboratory. Routine tests are performed on every single unit before shipment: mechanical operation, insulation, wiring and contact resistance. Ask for both certificates when you buy.
Step 7: Packing and Delivery
Finished panels are wrapped with protective film, packed on export-grade pallets with moisture barriers, and marked with handling instructions. Our shipping team coordinates sea, air or express freight to more than 40 countries, with full documentation including packing lists, certificates and manuals.
Why Factory Inspection Matters to Buyers
- It proves the supplier has real production capability, not just trading
- You can verify QC practices before payment
- Witness testing catches issues before shipment
- It builds confidence in lead times and after-sales support
Electric-GS welcomes factory visits and video inspections. Many customers book a witness test before delivery. To understand what you will see, also read our RMU operation guide and the MV switchgear maintenance checklist.
